How it went, from start to adjustment.
Collagen is the protein that gives skin its structure. Over the years the body makes less of it and skin slowly loses firmness. That is where supplements come in, with plenty of promises and not always a study behind them.
One point helps sort things out: the collagen you take is digested into small pieces, peptides. Some of those peptides have been tested against placebo; others have not. The ingredient's name matters more than the word collagen on the pack.
Young 4K, from Akmos's akbeauty line, uses Verisol, a bioactive collagen peptide with an average molecular weight of 2 kDa. Each 10 g serving, a tablespoon in 250 ml of cold water, also brings 34 mg of vitamin C, 7 mg of zinc and vitamins B3, B5 and B12, according to the label. It comes in a 160 g pouch, 16 servings, in lemon, red berries and pineapple-mint.
The most cited Verisol study was published in 2014 by Proksch and colleagues. 114 women aged 45 to 65 took either 2.5 g of peptides a day or a placebo for 8 weeks. The collagen group had a significant drop in eye-wrinkle volume from week 4, and more type I procollagen and elastin in the skin.
Read it with two cautions. The study was run with support from the ingredient's maker, and there is no meta-analysis of Verisol alone yet. In 2025 a new trial with 66 women aged 35 to 55 repeated the 2.5 g dose and also found fewer wrinkles, more elasticity and better hydration.
About the product: the label lists 2.7 g of protein per serving, consistent with the studied dose, but it does not state how many grams are Verisol. The first ingredient is maltodextrin, which gives the drink body. If the exact dose matters to you, ask the brand.
What matters more for skin than any powder: sunscreen every day, good sleep, not smoking and enough protein and vitamin C. Collagen can add to that foundation. It replaces none of those choices.
The pack says the product is for adults 19 and over and not for pregnant or breastfeeding women or children. This text is for information and does not replace advice from a health professional.
